But for others, especially those who like to use online banking and bill paying, budgeting software saves tons of time by offering the ability to download and categorize income and expense transactions automatically.

Software also allows you to improve accuracy--by downloading transactions as they occur, and producing reports that immediately show where your money's going.

One word of caution: utilizing software does not guarantee that you'll create an effective budget. Nor does it guarantee that you'll be able to stick to your budget.
